The figure group comprises a standing cow with a rather forlorn male figure with his dog decorated in Pratt colors. The cow facing to the right is colored with dark ochre patches that are speckled black. The herdsman stands leaning on a spade and wearing a black hat. His trusty dog is modeled in a recumbent pose. The group is mounted on an oblong base with a green top. The sides are sponge decorated with ochre, black, and blue, a classic feature of the Mexborough Yorkshire Potteries.
