Description
A rare pair of large Victorian pottery political caricature figures of Disraeli and Gladstone the two most important first ministers in the Queen’s reign. Disraeli was quite a Dandy in his dress sense and possessed a wicked and lively wit which made him Victoria’s favorite Prime Minister. Gladstone on the other hand was quite a stiff and formal man and could always be seen with his famous bag which to this day is named after him, “The Gladstone Bag”.
The figures have the pottery mark from the Wayte and Ridge Pottery which was located at Waterloo Place in Longton Staffordshire. The base of the figures also have the diamond shaped impress registration mark from the British patent office for the year 1876.
