A pearlware glazed pottery boxing-related pitcher decorated with a pink luster band at the wavy top rim. The jug is decorated with two underglaze cartoon images highlighted with enamels of the famous boxers Spring and Langan, which are titled Champ of England and Langon Defeated. ( Note the misspelling of Langan.) Under the spout is another print with enamel decoration and the caption "Drink to Englands Champion the brave and gallant Spring". The boxers fought in two fights in 1824. The first fight occurred at Worcester Racecourse in front of a huge crowd. The fight lasted over two hours and went 77 rounds. Spring won the fight and a prize of 300 gold sovereigns. The re-match was held in Chichester. Spring was victorious.
