Early 19th century Staffordshire pottery pearlware glaze tobacco box with an inner lid. The oval shaped box is relief moulded with images of a fox hunting scene and decorated with vibrant enamel colours. The finials are especially interesting with images of dogs and a sheep, the hounds attached to the side are especially delightful amusing additions. The scale of the piece is perfect, small and beautifully formed, a gem from the Staffordshire potters. The inner lid which tampered the tobacco is a feature of these rare boxes, not surprisingly they have often gone astray .

Dimensions: 4.5 inches high, 4.5 inches wide

Current Condition: Restored to tail on comical looking dog top finial.
