Description
This pottery equestrian figure has a pearlware glaze and is enamel decorated. It represents a Cossack or possibly a Hussar and was made in Staffordshire during the Napoleonic Wars in the early 19th century. This figure is particularly striking, vibrant, and full of movement and expression. It is widely regarded as one of the best examples of its type.
NOTE: The exact figure is referred to as a ” Hussar” decorated in Silver Luster, illustrated figure ref 77 in the 1904 publication THE BRITISH MUSEUM, A Guide to English Pottery and Porcelain.
