A rare Staffordshire pottery oval plaque decorated in underglaze colors, the type often associated with Ralph Wood. The plaque is expressively molded in deep relief, showing a tiger attacking a horned buffalo within a jungle setting with palm trees and framed within a decorative border and inscribed "Catching a Tartar!". This rare graphic piece was made at the end of the 18th century in Staffordshire and is previously unrecorded.    

Dimensions: 8 inches high 11 inches long

Current Condition: Good unrestored condition in accord with age.
