Staffordshire pottery George and the Dragon figure late 18th century

Ref: 9451 Categories: ,

£2450

Dated: 1785 Staffordshire England

The figure shows Saint George spearing the dragon while seated on his horse and was probably the work of the Ralph Wood Pottery located in Burslem Staffordshire England. This composition was a popular subject in the 18th century, and this example is the most dramatic version I have ever seen with stunning running black and grey glazes. As usual, the case with Ralph Wood figures, the modeling is exceptional. The underside of the figure has paper labels from the Zeitlin Collection, and an Exhibition label K.I. 11/74. I have previously sold this figure over ten years ago and was pleased to have the opportunity to acquire it once again.

Dimensions: 12 inches high, 10 inches wide, 4.5 inches long

Current Condition: Professional and invisible restoration to St. George.

Provenance: Zeitlin Collection then with Private Collector Yorkshire England.
