This large pitcher has relief molded decoration and images in underglaze transfer prints in light maroon with portraits of King William and Queen Adelaide. The border is decorated with national emblems of Scotland, Ireland, and England ( Wales unrepresented) and symbols on a cushion related to the Coronation, a crown, scepter, and sword. This quality piece is in remarkable condition with excellent prints of the King and Queen. NOTE: The Coronation of William IV and Adelaide as King and Queen of the United Kingdom took place on Thursday, 8 September 1831, over fourteen months after he succeeded to the throne of the United Kingdom at the age of 64, the oldest person to assume the monarchy until King Charles III in 2022. The ceremony was held in Westminster Abbey after a public procession through the streets from St James's Palace, to which the King and Queen returned later as part of a second procession.
