Dated: 1875 Staffordshire England

A large Staffordshire pottery political caricature figure of Gladstone, a significant Prime Minister in Queen Victoria's reign. The figure portrays Gladstone's stiff and serious demeanor, complete with his famous "Gladstone bag" and brolley. The figure is marked with the device of the Wayte and Ridge Pottery, which was located at Waterloo Place in Longton, Staffordshire. The base also has the diamond-shaped impression registration mark from the British Patent Office for the year 1876. Of course, Gladstone's companion figure is Benjamin Disraeli, the mercurial and clever Prime Minister who was a favorite of Queen Victoria. The two characters could not be more different, but in common they were both competent First ministers. An image is attached of a similarĀ  pair together.
