The Staffordshire pearlware pottery figure commemorates the introduction of the New Marriage Act in 1823. Figures are grouped around a table. The Parson, his Clerk, and the couple about to be married stand under a brick arched Arbour with Gothic windows. The plaque just above the clerk reads, " The New Marriage Act John Frill and Ann Boke aged 21 that is right say the Parson,Amen says the Clerk". The groom appears to look at the floor where his top hat rests. This rare figure has a whimsical charm capturing the spirit of the critical and recently introduced lawful occasion.

Dimensions: 6 inches high

Current Condition: Professional restoration at the Parson bible hand and some re-touching to the black enamel.

Literature: Similar groups are located in the Vand A Museum London, The Fitzwilliam Museum Cambridge, and the Brighton Museum.
