Staffordshire impressed Tittensor pottery pearlware bust of a Sir John Moore circa 1815

This finely potted and exceptionally rare pearlware half-bust on a waisted socle base shows a military officer thought to be Sir John Moore, who served with the British Army in the American Revolutionary War. Sir John Moore was also a prominent General in the Peninsula War in the Iberian region. He was killed in battle against Napoleon's army in 1809, which was defeated at Corunna, but he survived long enough to receive news of his victory. The reverse of the figure is impressed in capital letters TITTENSOR.

Provenance: Retains the label THE FOLKARD COLLECTION and then from a private collection Manchester North West England.
