Description
The large pottery dish is intricately decorated in blue and white—the center has a double eagle and shield motif surrounded by trailing stems and flowers. The border is decorated with four concentric bands with elaborate symbols. The piece was made in Fajalauza Granada, Spain, in the mid 18th century and painted in a Moresque fashion, a blend of Christian and Islamic styles. The scale and the bold painting in a sublime blue make a strong decorative artistic statement.
