The slipware pottery barrel or costrel is scraffito decorated with leaves. The mottled green lead glaze is outstanding on this very rare piece from the Donyatt Pottery located in Somerset. The Costrel is in fine condition with no restoration. Costrels are for carrying drinking liquid (often alcoholic) in a barrel form with handles or pierced lugs at the shoulders to permit carrying by a strap from the waist.

Current Condition: Excellent condition with no restoration.
