A London delftware royal portrait shallow formed dish painted in blue and ochre with images of King William and His Queen, Mary. Both figures are decorated in ermine cloaks and wearing crowns. The dish, a rare form, was probably made to celebrate and commemorate their joint Coronation in 1689 at Westminster Abbey, London. The letters WMR (William Mary Rex -Regina) are placed between the figures, decorated within two concentric blue bands. The naive rendition of the couple is delightful with their expressively depicted, worried countenances.

Current Condition: Unrestored with some chipping at rim in accord with age.

Provenance: Sir Harry Sutcliffe-Smith collection (1864-1938) and by family descent. A paper label is attached on the back for Stoner & Evans who were located in King Street St James's London.
