This pearlware glazed Staffordshire pottery tankard is exceptionally rare and features a blue Crown above the legend "Exact Measure Half Pint 1826." In 1824 Parliament changed the way imperial units were measured with a bill to standardise the way all liquids would be sold. The Weights & Measures Act was passed in 1826 and this mug is a very early advertising piece for a half-pint measure.
