Description
This exceptional rare large-sized earthenware harvest jug was made at Buckland Common with a brown-manganese glaze. The jug is inscribed with the name, date, and town ” William Hanshall 1759 Tring “.
The body is also inscribed with the number 6. Finally, the terminal of the handle is decorated with three strong finger indentations applied by the potter. Interestingly, two similar examples are preserved in the British prime ministers’ home at Chequers, close to the former Buckland Common Potteries.
