ANTIQUE STAFFORDSHIRE POTTERY PEARLWARE FIGURE COURTSHIP

Ref: 4875 Categories: ,

£975

Dated: 1820 Staffordshire

Antique Staffordshire pottery pearlware figure of Courtship. Depicts two lovers seated against a bocage background. This charming figure was produced by the Dale Workshops in Burslem Staffordshire. The figure has strong definition and striking colors and glaze. To me there is a slight comedy in the piece as the male suitor appears to be strangling his lady friend. Obviously not true as the figure is known as Courtship.

Dimensions: 7 inches high

Literature: Myrna Schkolne in her book People,Passions,Pastimes and Pleasure ...Staffordshire Figures 1810-35 explores the intracacy and importance of courtship in chapter 5
