Description
A very early cow on base figure probably Staffordshire or Yorkshire pottery.
The figure is modelled with a rather grouchy looking milk maid at work with a huge milk pail.
The colours are underglaze and primitive as is the modelling. The body is creamware and the figure would date to late 18th century. Interestingly the figure is in the form one usually associates with cow creamers, this figure was made purely as a decorative piece.
When made this delightful figure would have been made as a serious attempt depicting a cow and milk maid, with the passing of the centuries this figure can now be seen as it truly is a ” wonderful antique folk art object from England”.
