Antique pearlware commemorative pottery painted blue loving cup with the legend "God save the King". This cup with its heartfelt inscription would relate to King George 111's period of so called madness which began in 1788.Doctors concluded he had recovered in 1789 and this is when the loving cup would have been produced, an affectionate acknowledgement and thanks for the Kings recovery . Sadly the King had further bouts of his illness in 1801 and 1804 and became permanently insane in 1810,when he appointed his son, George the Prince of Wales, as Regent to rule in his place.George III died January 1820. This rare commemorative piece was probably produced in Yorkshire or Staffordshire.
