The pottery figure depicts a military foot soldier dressed in the uniform of a Loyal Volunteer. The tunic is dark mustard with yellow straps, and he stands with a musket by his side, and a brown cartridge case slung across his back. The figure stands on a green mound on a square base and made at the turn of the 18th century. NOTES; The British Volunteer Movement, 1793-1807. The volunteer force formed in Great Britain during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars was a significant movement during the eighteenth century. The force involved numerous and varied armed corps of civilians associated with internal defense in the event of a French invasion.
