Description
A very fine antique pottery pink luster pitcher with underglaze prints of masonic and sea-faring figures and related motifs. The lustre decoration on this jug is very strong and embellished with bright enamels which makes this piece very decorative and striking.
The size at 9 inches high also gives this pitcher aa significant stature.
This type of decoration in pink splash luster is strongly associated with the Sunderland Potteries. The quality and style of decoration suggests an attribution to the Tyneside Pottery whuch was located just up the coast north of Sunderland.
Michael Gibson in his book 19thc Lustreware illustrates a very similar decorated piece which was marked Newcastle Pottery.
