Description
A good pottery phrenology bust inkwell was impressed with the title “By F. Bridges PHRENOLOGY.” The base and inkwell are decorated in blue, and the sections of the head are dark grey. Bridges authored and published Phrenology Made Practical on the subject. A similar model is located in the Science Museum in London, England. NOTE: Phrenology is the study of the shape of the skull, which was thought to correlate with specific localized brain functions. It remained popular in Europe and America throughout the 19th century despite being shown by Francois Magendie around 1843 as scientifically unfounded.
