Description
A large and very impressive antique creamware pottery plain undecorated tureen and cover in the classic silver shape .
The tureen is moulded in relief with shell ornamentation and graced by two scroll handles.The covers are surmounted with a very well modelled artichoke finial.
This piece is large scale measuring 16 inches from handle to handle.of high quality and directed at the upper middle classes and gentry of the late 18th century.
The distinctive features of the tureen make it possible to attribute this fine striking piece to Josiah Wedgwood, England’s genius master pottery of the 18th century. A similar impressed WEDGWOOD example is located in the Victoria and Albert Museum London.
