Pearlware jug with underglaze print titled SUCCESS TO THE COAL TRADE circa 1820

This fine documentary jug is pearlware glazed and decorated with an underglaze black transfer print of a Savery-Newcomem steam-driven water pump titled SUCCESS to the COAL TRADE, the image shown on both sides of the piece. The pump was used extensively in mining to extract water. The rim, handle, and framing of the images are decorated with silver lustre. The jug is in remarkable condition and dates to the first quarter of the 19th century.

The rim, handle, and framing of the images are decorated with silver lustre.
