TheseĀ  Thomas Rathbone Pottery Scottish nursery pottery plates have relief molded borders of running dogs, a figure with a monkey on a lead, and lozenge-shaped medallions. One plate with an underglaze blue transfer print with the motto in an oblong cartouche, "For Diligence." The other plate features an underglaze blue transfer print of the Judge and statesman Henry Brougham, who was famous for his work with the passing of the Reform Act and The Slavery Abolition Act in 1833. Both plates are in excellent condition and have been treated with respect.
