A rare and previously unrecorded massive pair of jars with covers in ironstone pottery. The jars are exceptionally well decorated in the Imari palette and in the chinoserie style often associated with ironstone wares from the early 19th century. The lion handles and finials in gilt are very striking making the pair very imposing. The hand painted decoration is extremely detailed with various scenes of temples, deer, rabbits,figures and other elements in the Chinese style. Probably one of the rarest wares produced in ironstone in Britain.
