This imposing pair of stoneware salt-glaze spaniels were made at the Briddon Pottery in Brampton Derbyshire circa 1830. They are unique designs and historically significant as they are probably the inspiration for figures later copied by the Staffordshire potters in the Victorian period. With defined wavy coats, a curling tail, and separate legs, they are seated upon elaborate large oval bases decorated with flowers and leaves supported on paw feet. These magnificent figures are a testament to the English potter's skill and artistry in the early 19th century.

Dimensions: 14.75 inches high

Current Condition: Paw foot re-attached, and restored small chip at the base, otherwise in very good condition.

Literature: A -Z Staffordshire Dogs by Clive Mason Pope pages 94 and 95 referred to as " High Society".
