Description
The maiolica pottery charger is from Montelupo, Italy, and is boldly decorated with a soldier on horseback whilst brandishing a sword. The artist captures the dramatic movement of the horse galloping between trees. The rare dish is vividly painted in yellow, blue, green, and manganese and dates to the latter quarter of the 17th century.
NOTE; Florence’s rich and royal families stimulated the growth and quality of Tuscan ceramics from Montelupo. The pottery produced was so famous and popular that it was exported all over Europe.
