The Staffordshire pottery pearlware bust celebrates one of the pioneers of the Methodist movement Reverend George Whitfield. The reverse of the figure incorporated a circular medallion which reads " THE REVD.GEORGE WHITFIELD, SEPT.30 1770 DIED AGED 56. ENOCH WOOD SCULP.BURSLEM". The modeling of the bust in exceptional and depicts Whitfield's squint perfectly. The attention to detail of his spectacular wig is another crucial component of the life-like rendition of this important Methodist preacher.
