Description
This substantial spectacular oval dish was made at the Brameld Pottery Yorkshire in circa 1820 period. The dish is underglaze transfer printed in dark blue with a scene of a woodman returning to his thatched cottage and being greeted by a little girl and her dog. A woman is seated at a spinning wheel outside the cottage, the whole scene framed by plants and trees while the sun’s rays emanate through clouds. The narrow border is decorated with a scroll pattern. This dish is immaculate condition, with evidence that it was adopted for display rather than domestic use. It is a rare example and one of the largest produced in this romantic country pattern measuring 25 inches wide. The dish is impressed BRAMELD on the reverse.
