Description
This large-scale (22 inches long) architectural model of an English grand hall or mansion is relief decorated and embellished with enamel colors and pearlware glaze. The piece was made as a pastille burner, likely produced as a marketing or exhibition piece for the manufacturer. The building has 266 windows and 16 orange-painted doors. The roof featuresĀ 16 holes and numerous smaller holes with a large opening in the center, probably for placing the perfumed pastille lozenge. It is possible that the building represents New Hall, the home of the famous New Hall China and Ceramics works located in Hanley, Staffordshire.
