Description
A large scale shepherds and castle table base type model from the Tittensor Pottery in Staffordshire.
The detail and scale of this piece combine to give rarity and decorative appeal.
A classic piece of folk art from the Staffordshire potteries.
The color pallete is the typical Prattware range and the glaze is a fine pearlware.
EXHIBITION…. IF THESE POTS COULD TALK.
This fantastical piece of pottery has everything that a figure group should have.
Strikingly decorative with its Prattware colours with an amusing and childlike rendition of a shepherd and shepherdess with a flock of sheep,a goat and the proverbial sheep dog. The shepherding couple also have some drinks to help them with their arduous day’s work.
All this is executed on a large scale with a castle as a backdrop to the group.
Work from the Tittensor factory is rarely seen today and quite often the ouput from this factory can be quite crude. This wonderful piece ,however,is rather finely modelled and decorated but is executed in a way that still retains a true folk art quality to the piece. Look at this piece in detail and try not to smile.
