A massive fine, handsome blue and white platter with an underglaze transfer print commemorating The Death of General Wolfe circa 1826 from the British History Series produced by Jones and Co. of Hanley Stoke upon Trent, England. The image shows Wolfe mortally wounded on the Plains of Abraham near Quebec in 1759, receiving news of the victory over the French. His last words were, "Now, God be praised , I will die in peace." The dramatic border features military symbols of war and victory, including a crown and mitre surrounded by floral emblems of the United Kingdom. This platter is the largest from the British History Series; another platter depicting Wellington and the Battle of Waterloo is available.
