Description
This remarkable pearlware glazed pottery model of a life-size rams head was made in the circa 1810-20 period, probably in Staffordshire, England.
The head was made with a hole to enable hanging and three holes at the top within a hollow to display actual rams horns.
There are no records to reference with this figure. One can only speculate that the piece was made as a “one off,” possibly for a sheep farmer or perhaps the owner of a tavern ” The Rams Head.”
The replica resin horns are detachable.
The head is a unique, extraordinary historical country piece with a story to tell.
