A rare trio of Staffordshire pottery figures representing the exploits of Doctor Syntax, Syntax arriving at Calais, playing the violin and tied to a tree after been robbed by a highway man. The figures are amusingly modelled and have a a very decorative bocage feature. The base of each figure is impressed DR.SYNTAX which is picked out in black enamel. A rare discovery for such a group of figures which have remained together for 200 years.

Dimensions: 6 inches high

Current Condition: Some excellent professional restoration to leg of the Doctor tied to a tree and some minor repairs.

Literature: Myrna Schkolne in her book People,Passions,Pastimes and Pleasures,Staffordshire Figures 1810-35 devotes an entire chapter 19 to figures relating to the popular Doctor Syntax.
