Description
The English pottery bust of Empress Josephine (Napoleon’s first wife), her hair is styled with a French Roll adorned with a headband. The figure is decorated with silver luster and modeled on a waisted tapering socle.
This rare piece was made in Staffordshire in circa 1815. Despite being at war with Napoleon, there was strong interest in the couple in Britain.
The bust sometimes is considered to represent the English Princess Charlotte; informed sources record this is incorrect.
