Description
This rare and impressive pottery figure stands in military uniform his arm, leaning on a bust that stands on a plinth. The decoration is colored oxides and made in Staffordshire or possibly Yorkshire. The patriotic theme of this piece has similarities to a painting by Thomas Baxter showing Brittania salutes Nelson.
A similar figure is illustrated in John and Griselda Lewis’s book on Pratt ware page 172, described as possibly a dragoon. The figure stands on a square base and was acquired from Jonathan Horne by the Doncaster Museum.
