This English pearlware pitcher is decorated with two rare underglaze transfer prints overpainted with enamels. The image portrays two male figures sword-fencing in a garden setting. The prints are titled in the indistinct script, " Forgot to force the Guard," and in capital letters, "SINGLE STEEL." Under the spout, the initials R. H. and the date 1812 are added in red-brown enamels, along with a garland of leaves. The rims are decorated with silver luster.
