English earthenware circular-shaped early slipware baking dish probably North Staffordshire. The dark honey-colored slip decoration is a double lattice pattern expertly applied on to a chocolate-colored ground. The lead glaze falls away from the rim by half an inch exposing the dark clay body and providing a simple, effective decorative band around the rim.

Current Condition: The dish has six "tinker make do" repair rivets on the back which are retained and left to preserve integrity, the front has been invisibly restored and is cosmetically appealing.

Literature: Figure reference 311 in Ronald G. Cooper's book titled English Slipware Dishes illustrates an almost identical dish which is located in the Victoria and Albert Museum London.
