Description
An exceptionally rare and early English delftware fuddling cup. The three conjoined cups are joined with twist shaped handles which are pierced forming a single larger vessel. Each of the cups are painted in blue on the white ground with a bird perched on branches. The handles and borders are decorated also in blue with scrolls and trefoils.
Note; the bird decoration can be seen on early dated pieces from the early 17th century period.
Fragments of fuddling cups have been excavated at the Southwark,Pickle Herring and Montague Close delft potteries in London.
