English delftware Royalty polychrome coloured plate with portrait of King George 1 date c1715

Ref: 3986 Categories: ,

£6500

Dated: 1715 London England

A rare polychrome decorated English pottery delftware plate with a half portrait of King George 1st. The fact that no numeric reference is given indicates that the image represents King George 1st and not the 2nd. The form of the plate and the concentric circle decoration at the borders indicates a London delftware workshop , possibly Vauxhall. It is likely the plate would have been made around the time of King George's Coronation in 1714.
