This is a rare and decorative polychrome Delftware shallow dish showing Vincenzo Lunardi's balloon assent in 1784. The image shows Lunardi in his balloon high in the sky over a house, trees, and a fence. The rim is decorated with swags of flower sprays and a feather-edged rim. Lunardi took his dog, cat, and pigeon as passengers on his famous ascent from Mortlake London.
