Description
This English delftware pottery charger is decorated with a striking image of the Temptation of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.
The dish is expressively painted in blue, ochre, yellow, green, and manganese purple within a blue dash border with a manganese line around the rim. The back is lead-glazed.
The painting’s strong lines make it one of the most dynamic and graphic pieces related to Adam and Eve in English delftware. It is the work of the Brislington Pottery in the late 17th century.
