This muzzled bear figure is salt-glazed stoneware with an extraordinary application of agateware mocha-colored shredded clay, technically called "grog." The piece is large-scale and formed as a jug with a removable head. It is modeled clutching a beaker with the left arm raised in an outstretched beckoning gesture. The bear has an engaging expression, unlike many bear jugs of this type from the period.
