The jug is a fine and rare example of slipware made by Edwin Beer Fishley at the Fremington Pottery. The piece is artistically sgraffito decorated in an oriental style featuring a house, trees, a bird, and a rigged galleon highlighted with brush applied cobalt blue and copper green oxide. In addition, there is an intriguing face decorated under the handle. The base is inscribed in the script" E B Fishley Pottery Fremington Devon".
