Description
Very rare earthenware tankard decorated with stylised tulips and initialled “WS” in a yellow slip applied to a dark treacly coloured manganese ground. The unglazed base of the tankard is a dark red colour. Interestingly the inside of the tankard sports a rather chubby frog with a yellow glaze with touches of brown slip.
The piece would have been made in 1720/40 period to my knowledge this is the earliest example extant of a frog mug.
