An engaging delftware blue and white decorated plate probably commemorates the marriage of Edward and Sarah Brocket. The central decoration features a cartouch in the shape of a heart inscribed with the names of Edward and Sarah Brocket with the date 1748. An endearing addition is the figure of cupid hovering over the heart with a bow and arrow at the ready. Dutch delftware commemoratives were often made for customers on the east coast of England with maritime connections trading with Holland.
