Description
This chamber pot was made at The Sunderland Pottery (Garrison Pottery) and intended as a marriage gift.
Underglaze transfer prints provide a powerful bawdy theme for the married couple to enjoy with mirth.
The pot’s interior shows a bearded and horrified man holding up his hands with the words,” Oh Dear Whats do I see.”
The novelty of the pot is enhanced with the addition of a lurking green frog molded clinging to the side.
The rim has the legend NOW YOU ARE MARRIED I WISH YOU JOY, FIRST A GIRL THEN A BOY.
This is one of the earliest and best examples of its type.
