This rare and notable delftware polychrome charger is decorated rim to rim in the Chinese style. It shows a lady standing in the window of an extraordinary four-roof house with a three-arched bridge in a garden with trees and shrubs. Two exotic birds fly overhead. A small figure dressed in red standing by a trellis fence is painted on the lower rim. The image of a dramatically formed rock in the center adds a fantastical element. The reverse of the charger is painted with blue crosses and dashes in the typical Bristol fashion. An impressive and romantically engaging piece from circa 1740 in remarkable condition.
