Description
Antique pottery relief moulded tea caddy with pearlware glaze and underglaze blue hand painted decoration. The pottery tea caddy is strongly relief moulded with cherubs. The lid and the top of the tea caddy are amusingly decorated with childrens heads. We are fortunate to be able to present this caddy or canister complete with the original screw on lid.
These canisters are unique to the Bovey Tracey Pottery, Devon England. Many of the examples known are dated and named and this is the case with this caddy which is dated 1797 and bears the name “Robt. Neall”. Named and dated pieces always possess an extra special aspect as they conjure up the imagination as one reflects on the unknown story of Robert Neall.
